Thomas Hart Benton "From the Ozarks and Beyond"
Thomas Hart Benton was born and raised in Neosho, Missouri. The son of Congressman M.E. Benton. In 1906, young Benton worked as a surveyor's assistant in the zinc mining fields in Joplin, Missouri. Benton subsequently took a job at the Joplin American Newspaper as a cartoonist. The rest is history. Charles Banks Wilson was born in Springdale, Arkansas, and grew up in the further-most part of the Ozarks in Miami, Oklahoma. From the Ozarks, Wilson built a national reputation as one of America's great artists.
